Deviant Desire – MM Good Book Reviews

May 2nd, and the book tour continues with an appearance on MM Good Gook Reviews.

MM Good Book Reviews lives up to its name; it offers good reviews of good books and the blog will be reviewing Deviant Desire.

Lets’ hope they ‘get’ the story more than one reviewer did. Receiving a one-star review is never fun for an author, and what’s worse is when someone gives away plot point and twists without warning while writing the review. I read a review of DD (nothing to do with MM Good Book reviews, I must highlight that), and it read like something written by a disgruntled author. I gained the impression that this reviewer was pissed off that he/she hadn’t come up with the story, or Jackson had written it better that they could have done. Sour grapes. Everyone is entitled to an option, and I respect that, but what I don’t respect is when a reviewer takes against a story or author so much they feel it necessary to give away twists, thereby ruining the fun for future readers.

But, that aside, and it has nothing to do with today’s book tour appearance, Deviant Desire is selling really well and gaining more (better written and less personal attacks) reviews, that are a lot more positive. I am looking forward to seeing what MM Good Book Reviews has to say, and their blog on May 3rd is due to carry an interview or unique article about Jackson Marsh and Deviant Desire.

Deviant Desire – Valerie Ullmer, Drops of Ink

Welcome to May, and to two days of the Deviant Desire book tour. Today, May 1st, you can find the first of the Clearwater Mysteries (Deviant Desire) featured on Valerie Ullmer.

Valerie writes romances. Contemporary, Paranormal, Erotic, and Gay fiction. She also has some free books and a newsletter.

Tomorrow, May 2nd, the book will be featured on Drops Of Ink.
The about page reads: “The spiel on the Dreamspinner Press website sums it all up nicely so repeating it here. After all, why reinvent the wheel: Anne Barwell lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She shares her home with two cats who are convinced that the house is run to suit them; this is an ongoing “discussion,” and to date it appears as though the cats may be winning.”

A quick look at the blog tells you Valerie is about more than cats. She has an eclectic collection of books to browse through, articles and links, a newsletter and book reviews. She’s not down to review Deviant Desire, but she has a page listing other novels she has reviewed.

Deviant Desire – Love Bytes

Today, April 30th, Deviant Desire’s book tour continues with an appearance at Love Bytes.

“Love Bytes struggles to give LGTBQ+ books and their works the much deserved recognition by posting reviews, running giveaway contests for the authors, featuring their newly published works for promotion, hosting blog tours, conducting author interviews and lots more!”

I’m not sure about the word ‘struggles’ in their About introduction, it looks to me like they have no trouble at all. I know what they mean though, getting one’s books to the attention of the a wider readership is always a struggle, and getting the message through to others that MM Romance and Gay Lit are more than viable genres of writing is even more difficult. Love Bytes seems to be doing a great job.

I see they publish book reviews too. I am not sure of they will be review Deviant Desire, but they will be publishing a unique piece of content, one of the interviews and articles written specially for this fortnight tour. You will find more information on their home page.

Deviant Desire Book Tour

Deviant Desire Jackson MarshHey! The great news is that for the next two weeks, ‘Deviant Desire’ is going to be touring around the world on various MM Romance and Gay Lit blogs. There will be a series of interviews and behind the scenes articles about the writing of this novel, the characters, the setting and background, as well as some interviews with me about writing and personal life.

The book tour runs from April 29th to May 12th, and has been arranged by Other Worlds Ink– click for their website.

The first day of the Deviant Desire book tour gets underway with four appearances on four different blogs.

The title of this blog makes me think of late-night meetings with other avid MM Romance readers, gathering together in a dark café where everyone is safe and into the same reading. I notice they already have a book by Jay Northcote and other writers I have read or follow on Facebook. MM Midnight Café will be publishing a unique article from/about me and ‘Deviant Desire’, so if you want more background on the novel, there’s your starting place.

The Deviant Desire book tour also starts off at Matt Doyle Media. “The site is also home to a collection of various pop culture pieces. As it stands, you can find reviews, random thoughts on whatever takes my fancy, and a whole load more for you to explore.”

The blog has a ‘newsy’ appearance and covers MM Romance, Paranormal, Mystery, Sc-If and many other genres, but all with a MM romance theme or feel.

Deviant, Twisted and Unspeakable

Twisted Tracks, The Clearwater Mysteries book two – available in May

I have the proof of ‘Twisted Tracks’ back from my proof reader but I’ve not gone through it yet. I am up to about 55,000 words on ‘Unspeakable Acts’ (The Clearwater Mysteries book three) and want to get to the end of a first draft of that one before going back to ‘Twisted’, book two. Meanwhile, book one, ‘Deviant Desire‘, has a blog tour from 29th April until 12th May (articles and interviews appearing every day on different MM Romance blogs), and I want ‘Twisted’ out around the time that ends, so there’s no rush and I have plenty of time to have it laid out.

I was really blocked for about a week on ‘Unspeakable.’ I am kind of making it up as I go, but I knew the ending. The thing was, I got to about half way and had lft myself two days to fill before the climax – the characters were saying, ‘The gala is on such and such a day’ and I was sticking to that while wondering what they would be doing during those two days while they waited. Of course, I woke up one morning and said, ‘Why make them wait? Just move the gala forward.’ The gala at the City Opera House is the climax of the thing. Once I’d realised that, I was off again, and I reckon I’ve got around 30,000 words of what’s essentially an Act Three still to go.

I expect I will go beyond that as there’s a lot of madness and mayhem to get through, and then I can go back and edit and get the job done properly. For now, I’m steaming ahead into the world of German opera (an invented composer, a contemporary of Wagner) and backstage at the Opera House, while someone of great importance has arrived unexpectedly to witness the performance, during which one of Archer’s best buddies will be killed, on stage, if he doesn’t make a speech ‘outing’ the viscount. Silas and the new footman, James, have to work out the clue as the show is running and then find a way to stop a demented boy-whore murdering Cadwell Roxton, famed countertenor, while preforming ‘Aeneas and Dido’ – a retelling of the classic take where Aeneas kills himself (rather than Dido). Anyway… All rather mad but now I am unblocked, I’m back on track. Rather ‘Twisted Tracks’, I suppose, but then, that is a good name for a story.

Deviant Desire (release)

Deviant Desire is ready to go for publication, just about. I’m just waiting for a couple of minor changes to the book cover for the print version, and after that, it should be uploaded. As usual, it’s a nervous time. Have I done the layout properly? It looks fine on my Kindle and other devices, but how will it look on other people’s? That kind of thing, but I shall press the button soon.

There will be a book tour for this one, the first in a new series, ‘The Clearwater Mysteries’, but that’s not until April 26th, so you have plenty of time to be the first to read the start of this new and on-going adventure. Here’s the blurb, you’ll have the links soon.

It’s time I shared the blurb for the upcoming release, ‘Deviant Desire.’

The working title for this novel was ‘Deviant Lamplight’ which I liked, but it is a bit too close to ‘Curious Moonlight‘ which is already released and not related to this story at all. My cover designer is working on changing the title to read ‘Deviant Desire’ with the subtitle, ‘The Clearwater Mysteries part one’, and the MS is nearly ready to be proofed. Meanwhile, part two which follows on immediately from part one is in first draft stage and should be ready to release a few weeks after part one which itself should be ready by the end of March. So, not long now!

Review: Curious Moonlight

Curious Moonlight has its first review already, and it’s a good one – better than good. I am thrilled, and this has inspired me to push on and start a second in what could become a series. ‘The Curious Moonlight Mysteries’ sounds like an excellent title for such a series. Our central boys, Luke and Peran (one sceptical, one a believer) set about solving unsolved hauntings but without using modern techniques. They rely on researching past stories and events, local history and records to piece together a) what happened to the presence haunting the properties, and b) why they should be hunting them. Then, they are able to figure out how to end the events.

That’s basically what happens in Curios Moonlight, but in the second part (plotted and 20,000 words written), they travel further afield to solve a mystery and, if successful, get paid. Could be fun and the start of something longer-term.
